Introduction to Weaving

Creative weaving on a simple frame loom is a fun and relaxing activity that you can do anywhere. During this 4 hour workshop you will learn everything you need to begin and complete a fabulous tapestry. We will discuss basic tools and patterns as we practice various techniques. All supplies will be provided including a variety of beautiful wool and silk. You will also take home your own frame loom made custom for this class in Santa Cruz.

About Stephanie

Stephanie is a fiber artist living in Santa Cruz. She is inspired by her wonderful community, her maker friends, the stunning beauty of nature and the possibility sparked by one simple act. Stephanie spends her days making things by hand, caring for her family and creating workshops to connect people.

Weaving came to Stephanie as a convergence of play, fiber love and a driving desire to make. Weaving has connected her with yarn producers, shop owners, wood workers, and a community of students who fill her with so much joy.

Pointed Pen Calligraphy

Learn the basics of modern pointed pen calligraphy. Start with an exploration of proper techniques, including how to correctly hold an oblique calligraphy pen and practice basic strokes to gain an understanding of how pressure affects ink flow.

Broom Making

Join designer Hannah Quinn and learn cord lashing techniques for making up to three hand brooms using black-dyed and natural broom corn.

Indigo + Shibori Dyeing

Experience the fun and creativity of playing with indigo Shibori, one of the world’s most revered dyeing traditions. 

Brush Pen Calligraphy

In this three hour class, we will explore the beautiful art of brush pen calligraphy.  Slightly different from pointed pen calligraphy where you dip a nib into ink, this style of calligraphy uses a single brush pen.

Giant Knit Blanket

Learn how to make a dreamy super thick and cozy knit blanket out of wool roving! Use a “table knitting” technique, forming the stitches with your hands rather than using knitting needles.

Hungarian Written Embroidery

Learn the basic stitches of Hungarian written embroidery, a folk style that originated in Romania. Fun for beginners and experienced embroiderers!
